Magic is the name given by civilisations living inside the omniverse prior to the Great Occult War to the divergence between the expected distribution of reality fluid from propagation according to natural law and the actual distribution as a result of interaction between the omniverse and Creator's godverse.

It comes in three major forms:

True Magic / Divine Magic[]

True magic is magic that occurs as a direct result of Creator's manipulations, or from a direct connection to the Creator's godverse. True magic can have any effect; there are no generalities other than what the Creator tends to do. The Divine Keys operate on true magic.

Metaphorically, divine magic is a firehose of reality fluid.

Broad Magic / Clerical Magic[]

Broad magic is magic that results from the Creator generally uplifting the reality fluid share assigned to certain types of operations, typically those that lead to a more uniform distribution of reality fluid throughout the omniverse (further expansion of the Creator's domain) or those that map to the collective goals of entities living in certain regions (maintaining stability of the Creator's domain; especially useful for recovering Devil-consumed gaps). This is known as clerical magic because this typically manifests as a "blessing" upon entities and groups that are working towards the Creator's goals, who are shaped into the role of becoming the clerics of the Creator.

Metaphorically, clerical magic is grass growing under a reality fluid sprinkler.

Narrow Magic / Point Magic / Arcane Magic[]

Narrow magic is caused by a point intervention to elevate a single unlikely verse with a large injection of reality fluid; this means that the verse has highly complicated, often non-reductive laws of physics, with absurdities such as incanted strings of syllables combined with gestures combined with mental states leading to specific physical effects. This is known as arcane magic because the verse the magic is in follows theoretically learnable, though hidden, rules.

One application of narrow magic is to create specialized worlds to generate Avatars; the ideal Avatars for Creator are typically for worlds where complex, easily-exploitable but not-yet-exploited systems exist, so that the Avatars have a past history of rapidly scaling in power. Another significant application of narrow magic is the creation of Angels; specific archverses that match Angels occuring naturally in Creator's godverse are promoted to reality, their internals less elegant and instead resembling complex arbitrary magic systems in this omniverse.

Metaphorically, arcane magic is a bonsai tree reality watered in a pot.

Post-Restructuring Magic[]

Following the Restructuring, magic tends to operate differently:

  • Few new non-chaotic worlds containing arcane magic are created. Existing arcane magic worlds leak reality fluid, and are typically more useful as non-renewable sources of reality fluid rather than for their original purposes and are hence captured and optimized to those ends; the CEO is a recently ascended entity that has taken interest in mining these.
  • Clerical magic is mostly randomised and useless. Some sources of clerical magic, designed to be dependent on the collective expectations of entities in certain regions and originally for ensuring stability and momentum in Creator-controlled areas of the omniverse, are still present, though have been able to drift freely from their original goals without maintenance.
  • Direct sources of divine magic are significantly rarer; controlling one often draws the attention of the Mevalkagna so are rarely used.
